MERAUKE – KNPB and West Papua Parliament Merauke Regency (PRD) Protest today 15 August, 2014, in Merauke, West Papua. West Papuan people of Merauke reject and refuse the New York Agreement 1962. Under heavy surveillance from Indonesian intelligence and police, who regularly abduct and torture West Papuan activists, people defiantly protested to reject the New York agreement.
Before proters we applied letter to the Head of Police Merauke on Monday, 11 August 2014 KNPB Merauke regency delivered letter to the Head of the Merauke Police resort, even we are aware if the police never ever give permits to our freedom of expression, but It was not reason to cancel our right to do protest remembering the day of BROKEN PROMISED and DAY OF BETRAYAL by America, Netherland and Indonesia made agreement without any Papuan involved that agreement.
In accordance to the international law West Papuan have right to self-determination. However, Indonesian police and military have been blockade our peaceful demonstration, Although, Indonesian military and police intimidated, terrorized us while we have peaceful protest in Merauke.
Firstly, we reject and refuse New York Agreement 1962.
Secondly, we called to the Indonesia government and Police in West Papua to RELEASE two journalists, Thomas Dandois and Valentine Bourrat immediately. Also Indonesia should allow International NGO’s, including journalist to enter into West Papua.
